Helicopter Private Pilot

We offer two Helicopter Private Pilot programs: Private Pilot and Private Pilot Add-on. The private pilot program is for students that do not already hold an FAA private pilot certificate or better. The add-on program is for students who already hold an FAA Private Pilot certificate (i.e. airplane).

Helicopter Private Pilot

FAA Requirements:

  1. Obtain a Third Class Medical Certificate
  2. Obtain 40 hours helicopter flight time, 30 hrs. dual, 10 hrs. solo (these times are FAA minimums, and in our experience they are inadequate - the hours listed in the "costs" section below reflect the real-world average.)
  3. Pass an FAA knowledge test
  4. Pass an FAA practical test (includes 1.5 hours helicopter rental)

COST:

  • 45 hours dual instruction
  • 10 hours solo
  • 35 hours ground instruction
  • Textbooks and materials
  • FAA knowledge test
  • Practical test

 Total Cost      $16,622

Helicopter Private Add-on

FAA Requirements:

  1. Hold a Private Pilot Airplane Certificate.
  2. Hold a Third Class Medical Certificate.
  3. Obtain helicopter flight time, 20 hours dual, 10 hours solo (these times are FAA minimums, and in our experience they are inadequate - the hours listed in the "costs" section below reflect the real-world average.)
  4. Pass an FAA practical test

COST:

  • 30 hours dual instruction
  • 10 hours solo
  • 15 hours ground instruction
  • Textbooks and materials
  • FAA practical test (includes 1.5 hours helicopter rental)

Total Cost     $11,835
