Helicopter Certified Flight Instructor

FAA Requirements:

  • Obtain a Second Class Medical Certificate
  • Hold a Commercial Helicopter Certificate
  • Pass two FAA written exams (FOI & CFI)
  • Pass a FAA practical test

There are no minimum hours of flight or ground required.  The hours listed below are based on Part 61, and are average times needed to prepare previous CFI candidates.

  • 15 hours dual (Schweizer 300C)
  • 15 hours ground instruction
  • 2 FAA written exams (FOI & CFII)
  • FAA practical test (1.5 hours helicopter rental)
