Training Environment

The Pacific Northwest offers students an ideal training environment. Our varied seasons and terrain allow students to experience real world environments during their training.

During a training flight, a student can experience dense urban areas, mountain flying in the Cascades and Coast Range, and the high deserts of Central Oregon. These environments are identical to what an aviation professional will experience in their future jobs as a pilot.

In addition to varied terrain, Precision offers training in all types of Federal airspace within a reasonable flying distance.

Mountain Training

Our private, commercial and CFI curriculum includes mountain flying training in the Oregon Coast Range. We will ensure you have a solid base of mountain flying experience when you graduate from our school.

Off-Airport Training

Helicopters were designed to land off-airport. Learning confined area ops throughout your training is critical to your success. Precision makes extensive use of off-airport locations to ensure you have the skills your future employers are looking for.

Oregon Coast

Forty-five miles west of Precision is the beautiful Oregon Coast with its lush, temperate rainforests. Our students enjoy making cross country flights to the coast to further their training and enjoy world class scenery.

Alpine Environments

Forty miles east of our airport are the Cascade Mountains. With an average altitude of 5000 feet and with peaks as high as 11,000 feet, the Cascades offer a great environment for teaching students the art and science of high density altitude flying.

Dense Urban Environment

Fifteen miles north of Precision is the city of Portland. The Port of Portland operates one of the few urban downtown heliports in the U.S. Our training program takes advantage of this and gives our students experience flying in the cityscape!

Airspace Training

Located 25 miles south of Portland International Airport, Precision ensures you will get training flying in congested airspace and interacting with air traffic control.

Home Airport

Precision is located in uncontrolled airspace. This means more days of flying during your training. Cloudy days that will shut down training at larger airports usually do not effect our ability to perform training flights.

Oregon Weather

Contrary to popular belief, Oregon has some of the best summer weather you can find, with low humidity, warm temperatures and blue skies. It can rain in the winter; however, we consider this a plus. Training in rain, wind, sun and mist will make you a better pilot. Your future employer will expect you to fly regardless of the weather. We prepare you for real-world flying.
